8 Kmart Home Decor Hacks to Style Your Home on a Budget

OK, so I’m going to be honest here. I once thought that all of the cheap Kmart home decor was just more dust collectors, those things you’d buy on impulse because they were cheap only to eventually become throwaway junk. Well, I’ve changed my tune because I’ve seen how nice some Kmart homewares can look when styled right AND the Kmart hacks you can do with them are so clever, they make affordable Kmart homewares look a lot more expensive than they really were.

Over my break, inspiration struck while I was browsing through some of my favourite Kmart hacks Instagram accounts and I just had to share my finds with you. It’s perfect home decor inspiration to spruce up your home!

**This post was originally published January 2016. Since then, some of these products I have featured are no longer in stock.  I have, however, updated each Kmart hack with similar products that are available.

8 Kmart Hacks

Kmart geometric candle holder turned into a vase

Adding some beautiful flowers to a candle holder gives it a whole new purpose. Unfortunately, Kmart no longer sells the geometric candleholder pictured however, they do have this large luxe hurricane candle holder for $7, it will also make a great vase!

This $29 Kmart side table has been given the ‘luxe’ treatment

A simple addition of marble to the top of this Kmart side table is an awesome Kmart hack to bring a little luxe into a room on a budget. Although the table pictured is no longer available, you can still grab Robin quilt cover – just paint it your colour of choice.  How gorgeous is this whole style though? The Robin quilt cover is from Kmart too!

Add some gold bling to the $12 Kmart dipped stool in Pink

Originally you could buy this cute little stool in white and then transform it yourself (as pictured). Kmart no longer sells the stool in white, however, they do come in pink, all you have to do is dip the feet in gold, silver or whatever colour your heart desires!

$7 Kmart copper wire dish rack turned magazine rack

Forget the dishes, there needs to be somewhere for the magazines! Although this copper wire dish rack is no longer available at Kmart, you could do the same thing with a similar rack.

Simply get a small knife, cut a hole, add some succulent mix and some succulents and voila! You have a very cheap and very fun dinosaur planter! A great Kmart hack for the kids.

A Kmart wooden lamp made pretty

This Kmart hack takes a plain white lamp and turns it into something gorgeous for a little girls room. Although the pictured lamp is no longer available, Kmart does stock this wooden lamp with a white shade, the perfect canvas for your own design.

$15 Kmart marble and wood board plus $15 Kmart wire hamper = a side table

Unfortunately both the marble and wood board and the black wire hamper pictured are no longer available at Kmart, BUT, you can get a similar look with this $15 Kmart wire hamper and this $12 Kmart Terrazzo Board.

Bedroom, loungeroom…wherever, how cool is this Kmart hack for a side table!

Kmart lantern turned into a chic vase

Fleur from Our Urban Box turned this simple yellow lantern into something very pretty with a few coats of paint. I’m so disappointed that this gorgeous little piece is no longer available at Kmart, but, it goes to show that just because something is labelled a ‘lantern’ or ‘candle holder’ it doesn’t mean it has to be! Take $12 Kmart Terrazzo Board currently at Kmart for $10, it’d be perfect as a vase, just put a glass in the middle!

Eva, these are great K-Mart home decor hacks! I have noticed that the quality of home decor goods at K-Mart has increased substantially over the last 12 months or so! I’m actually planning a shopping trip to pick up a few pieces this week so your post was very timely and has given me some great ideas. Much thanks to you! Happy New Year to you! xo

That magazine rack is a bit clever isn’t it. I’ve bought 2 of their mirrors for our bathrooms and they have worked a treat.

These look really great. I love Kmart, I have the copper candle holder which I keep my airplant in. I am also wanting to pick up a couple of those cute little stools.

These are awesome! I am so envious because I simply can’t have stuff displayed out like that at the moment because my 3 year old boy destroys everything! The magazine rack I could though! Hmm … LOVE. #TeamIBOT

I love some of these simple but affective ideas here. I have a few of these things and never thought of altering them.

My fave would have to be the magazine holder – I am a magazine junkie! Though I love the dinosaurs too.

I am desperate for a couple of those copper side tables! I went straight online after seeing this to buy one but they don’t have stock at my closest outlet. You are officially an enabler!
