How to Feel Confident in 5 Minutes

wonder woman
I remember listening to a talk by Tara Moss earlier in the year and remember thinking to myself ‘gosh, she exudes so much confidence’. But later in her talk she admitted that she doesn’t always feel confident and one of the ways she automatically builds her confidence is by putting on some lovely and bright lipstick and a flower in her hair.

It was thinking back to Tara’s talk and me personally meeting with this amazingly beautiful and intelligent woman, that made me realise that even the most confident seeming people are not so.

We all have our insecurities. But, it also made me think of the things that, without fail, give me an almost instant pick me up if I’m lacking the confidence I need to get through the day. I thought I might compile some things you could do (and some I try to do myself) to help you feel confident when you’re feeling like…well…a bit shit.

10 ways to feel confident in 5 minutes

1. Wear sexy underwear

This is seriously a winner for me. Know one else (besides my husband) has to know what I’m wearing, but they will see that I’m wearing a confident smile when I’m wearing my sexiest underwear. There’s just something about wearing a bra and briefs that actually match, wearing underwear that doesn’t have holes, underwear that is lacey, underwear that doesn’t look like it needs to be thrown in the bin.

2. Put on some lipstick

I have to say I’m with Tara Moss on this one. The moment I put on some lipstick, I feel so much better. It doesn’t necessarily have to be with other makeup, just the lipstick is enough to make me feel and look brighter.

3. Listen to uplifting music

Music is always a winner in my books, it has to be high energy, it has to have inspiring lyrics. Listen to your favourite song, a song you know makes you feel better and you will experience and instant lift.

4. Think about the happy things in life

Think about what makes you happy, practice gratitude. Is it music, something you’ve read, something you’ve experienced, or perhaps how you feel after exercise? Thinking about the positive effect these ‘things’ have had on you will help take you out of the negative zone and into the positive.

5. Wear your favourite outfit

There’s no better feeling than wearing an outfit that makes you feel like you could own the room. When you’re in an outfit you love, its’ automatic confidence right there!

6.  I rock at this!

Make an ‘I rock at this’ list and when you need to have a confidence boost, look at the list! Write down the things you rock at – your achievements, the struggles you’ve overcome, you’re awesome characteristics or even the fact that your butt looks awesome in your skinny jeans. If you have trouble coming up with a list, ask your friends or family what your best attributes are. Once you have your list, go through it to remind yourself why you rock!

7. Perfume

I don’t know about you but when I put my favourite perfume on, it’s a reminder that I can kick ass!

8. Drink coffee

When I have not had my morning coffee, I’m hard-pressed to function effectively. When I’ve had my morning coffee, my perspective completely changes. I’m sure you can understand where I’m coming from here? Coffee is essential!

9. Breathe. Meditate.

Take five minutes to focus on your breathing, to calm yourself, to focus, to put the negatives behind you, to appreciate the moment. There are plenty of meditation apps to help with this.

10. Smile. Compliment. Praise.

Can you remember how good you felt when you offered someone else, especially a stranger,  a compliment? It’s an instant confidence booster. Next time you see someone and think to yourself ‘gee that woman looks lovely in that dress. Or, ‘Gee, I love that woman’s haircut’, let them know! Try your best to give a smile to the next two people you walk past. Praise a co-worker. Pay for a stranger’s coffee. It will put a skip into your step.

These are just some of the things I do to help give myself an instant confidence boost. What five-minute confidence boosters do you love?

Thanks Holly! She is definitely striking and amazing to talk to and to listen to. I have her latest book on my bookshelf and I’m dying to read it! A perfect book to read on my flight to the USA I think!

Nice list Eva – so agree on the underwear one. Fake tan helps me too, especially at this time of year when I’m white and I’d like to actually show some skin.

Thanks Kathy. I never thought of fake tan. I have so very much wanted to try it but have never been game as I’ve always been a real whitey! lol

Thank you for the link-up and the confidence boosters. I love a good lipstick. Something that always makes me feel good is when my family loves my cooking. I brought one of our favorite side dishes. (20) I hope you like it! I’ll be sharing this party and following you on Pinterest. ๐Ÿ™‚
