Pom Pom Play

I am not the most creative when it comes to coming up with fun toddler activities and so I am very thankful for the internet which has allowed me to Google activities for toddlers. It’s likely you’ve seen this activity before or have done it yourself, but I will admit I was very proud of myself, a clueless mum when it comes to creative play activities, setting out to Spotlight and putting together something that Elliott really loved.

What did I buy?

  • A few packets of coloured pom poms
  • Coloured Sticks
  • Large coloured plastic buttons

I poured all of the pom poms, sticks and buttons into a plastic container. Elliott’s eyes lit up.  I then used an empty formula tin and cut a hole in the lid. Elliott sat there for quite a while trying to pop the pom poms, buttons and sticks through the hole.

The next thing I did was sort the coloured items into individual containers, saying the colour as I sorted them. Elliott was happy to take them out of the containers and mix them all up, but I’m sure that over time he will learn to recognise and group the colours. His favourite part was definitely sticking them into the tin.

What activity is your toddlers favourite?

Awesome activity! He would be loving all those bright colours. Anyone who uses pom poms creatively, gets a big tick from me! As he gets bigger you could add a egg carton and a kid safe pair of tongs, they love picking them up with the tongs and sorting them into the egg carton holes. My boys love doing that x
