Pulling the Pin #MummyMondays

pulling the pin
I don’t want to alarm you but last week I was VERY close to pulling the pin on Mummy Mondays and also very close to pulling the pin on my blog altogether! Eek!

But do you know what? My weekend started off just like it did last weekend (I’m writing this on Saturday afternoon by the way). Already I’ve been able to spend time with Mr. G and Elliott this morning, we spent time mucking around on our bed tickling and playing, then we watched the ANZAC Day march in town and now I’ve come back to a house by myself while Mr. G takes Elliott to a truck show. It’s because of this that I’ve had a chance to gain some clarity after a busy week and to be able to sit down and really see the effort I have put into my blog over the almost 3 years. Thank God for clarity!

I just simply don’t have the heart to give it all away. It’s part of me and who I am.  It’s also played a HUGE part of getting me to where I am in my career today, Digital Editor for Kids on the Coast Magazine and Kids in the City Magazine. I’d love you to go and visit :). When I left my old job to start maternity leave back in 2011, I would have never dreamed I’d be doing what I am today.

So, because I’ve stepped away from my blog over the past couple of weeks, I’ve lost a few Facebook likes and that’s ok, I don’t blame people for wondering what on earth happened to me.  Maintaining a Facebook page is tough work, let alone 3!

And that gets me onto the topic of maintaining a blog, gosh it’s hard work. I’m not going to re-write what’s involved in maintaining and growing a blog so I’ll share this post by Natalie at Our Parallel Connection which gives a good idea of what’s involved, although not identical to what I do, it’s a pretty good example. Read it here.

So now I’m happy to say that Mummy Mondays continues and is now open! I apologise for not getting around to commenting on everyones posts in the past. I did have a couple of helpers originally but other commitments came up and I’m back to my old little self. If you’d like to join #TeamMM, please drop me a line!

It’s a big job, running a blog. I try not to let it encroach on the family, so I write from 6-7 in the mornings, and then it’s just reading and tweeting when I’m out and about (and waiting). I also shut down for holidays and weekends….but I think I’d be really sad to stop completely…

I think we’ve all been there Eva. Glad you found your feet again and happy to see you continuing! All the best. X

I’m only 8 months into blogging and was considering quitting a few weeks ago. It consumes all of my free time. I try to blog at night when the kids are in bed. So glad you didn’t and are still here. Don’t worry about not commenting on everyone’s link up. Life happens and you need to be there for your family x

Totally get you!!!! This whole blogging thing really IS hard work! I don’t know how you do it – I find it hard enough never mind being digital editor for 2 magazines!!! So glad you’re hanging around though! xx

I’ve been at that point so many times. In the last 2 weeks I lost motivation and couldn’t think of anything to write about yet this week I’ve already scheduled all 4 posts for the week. Its so up and down. Its so hard finding the balance with family too. I really think some people dont understand how much time and effort does go into managing a blog and all the social media that goes along with it.

So glad you decided not to throw it in. It is a huge job. And there are so many extras to do that most don’t realise, like the FB pages as you managed. Social media can be so time consuming and still not pay off sometimes. Ahh the joy 🙂 hopefully you manage to just balance it out a little more and enjoy more of those weekends with the family minus the computer.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no balance, and we just lurch from one trying-hard-activity to the next. Hopefully our kids aren’t too damaged as adults, and thank us for trying our best.

Blogging is exhausting and only those who actually do it will ever understand the amount of time involved… Stay with it even if you cut back a little. Thanks heaps for linking up mu post on blogging – mwah..

Oh I’m so glad you haven’t given it away! Even if you end up deciding to discontinue #MummyMondays you should definitely keep your blog, even if you only update it once a month – just something for you as a personal creative outlet.

Oh gosh yes blogging is so time consuming isn’t it…… I’m glad you’re sticking with it though!

I’ve had quite a few times over my blogging life where I haven’t blogged much at all. 2011 was a big year for that, being pregnant with Punky and just not wanting to do anything but nest and read about pregnancy. Blogging was the last thing I felt like doing. Weirdly enough though, even though there have been times when blogging has been the last thing I’ve wanted to do, I always knew I would come back to it at some stage. And I think that’s the beauty of blogging. You can always come back to your old friend 🙂
    Glad you didn’t quit!

I can completely relate. I’ve needed to schedule lots of social media free time but it means my reach on Facebook slackens and I’m doing double time to catch up when I do get back online.

I’ve been thinking for a long while, that I wouldn’t mind adding a blog sitting service to my Virtual Assistant work. So when bloggers need time out or want to go on holidays and not be attached to their laptops or devices, I could blog sit for them.

You’ve got to do whatever is right for you and your family, but I’m glad you’ve decided to stick around!

Eva, with all that’s gone on in the past year – I’ve taken regular breaks and finally I dont feel guilty about it – it just happens. I’m glad youre still here I feel like we’re kinda pals now and I’d ;miss you

  17. April 27, 2015 / 9:39 pm

Phew! I’m glad you reconsidered although I completely get it. Running a blog is a big job. Write when you feel like it. If you mojo and enthusiasm runs, know it’ll come back when the times right x

I’m so glad you’re sticking with it! I feel bad, but I just haven’t been able to link up to Mummy Mondays in so long. I’m not doing so many mummy posts … well, actually, I’m hardly doing any posts at the moment. But that’s life. You’ve built an amazing following – while your blogging still fulfils you, it still has a place 🙂

  19. April 27, 2015 / 11:25 pm

I am fairly new to blogging and consider through in the towel almost monthly. I hate the time it takes from my family. I’m glad you decided stick around. I enjoy your link party and appreciate you hosting! Have a good week!

  20. April 28, 2015 / 7:47 am

Oh I’ve been there! Lots of times. Just recently too, and I thought “well what am I going to do with those five years I just spent learning everything I could about something I”m going to quit?”! I find the mojo usually returns (sometimes longer waits than others!). There are totally days I wish I could throw my laptop out the window. Oy!

  21. May 10, 2015 / 12:57 pm

So glad you’re still here and blogging 🙂 I have these days a lot but sometimes I just don;t have enough energy to devote to my blog. Family first, always for me.
