Getting My Adrenaline Fix + Giveaway

So here’s a little secret. I have a thing for fast cars. Specifically drag cars. Actually, I have admitted this before, see point #10 in this post of confessions.

Back in my early teens I used to frequent the drags with my friends. Then as I grew older, I still frequented the drags except I had a boyfriend that enjoyed racing his stock standard street car there. Oh he thought he was so cool (ahem…so did I), but I look back now and cringe.

Anyhow, a couple of weekends ago I went back to that raceway a whole 15 years later to get my fix yet again. It was the Winter Nationals, Australia’s biggest drag racing gathering.

We packed our snacks and jumpers ready for a family afternoon of fast cars.

Elliott was properly equipped with some fancy ear muffs although I think it was the vibrations that shook his body that frightened him more than the noise.

adrenaline fix
Mr. G and I had our token burgers and chips as you do at events like this, while Elliott enjoyed his fruit and drink from the wonderful Thermos FUNtainer Food Jar and Thermos FUNtainer Drink Bottle.  Both vacuum insulated, they were nice and cold.  He wasn’t interested in eating the noodle meal I’d prepared earlier, a hot meal that amazingly kept nice and warm in the Thermos Foogo food jar 5 hours later.

Something I prepared earlier…

As the cars roared down the track and the smell of burning rubber floated around my nose, I just couldn’t wait for the big ones, the noisiest ones, the fastest ones…the Top Fuelers.

The first race went by with a flash although I didn’t see much of it because some inconsiderate poo heads decided to stand up right in front of us, us who had been sitting patiently on the grass at the bottom of the hill with a toddler….let’s just say that after that first race, they didn’t come back after my words to them.

Anyway, the second race was getting close. The cars did their burn outs, they were being directed backwards to the start line. The Christmas tree lit up, holding…holiding…green light…ROAR!

And then this happened. I think I screamed the loudest.

Although we didn’t know straight away, the driver ended up being ok and sustained injuries to his vertebrae.

So there you have it, this is one of the things I love…none of this around in circles stuff like the V8’s…..just pedal planting stuff. Thankfully when Mr. G asked Elliott ‘Does Mummy drive like that?” Elliott stuck up for me and said no. Sometimes I wish I could though.

I’m a bit of a wuss generally but suprised myself when I started going for motorbike rides with a friend- just as a passenger of course- but man, getting up to high speed on the back of a yamaha is pretty amazing!

I can’t watch car racing because I keep expecting THAT to happen!!

  5. June 19, 2015 / 10:28 am

I SO don’t get the allure. I’m sorry… but all things cars and racing don’t interest me at all. Having said that even runners going around and around a track are kinda boring! 😉

  7. June 19, 2015 / 2:46 pm

I’m a huge adrenaline junkie too! I miss the rush I’d get from snowboarding down a steep slope and face plant in a pillow of powdered snow. Best. Feeling. Ever!
Love the thermo flasks! I’m a thermo nerd at the moment – bring my little flask of tea on the road all the time!

I’m such a tame bunny, but I do love to watch the summer & winter Olympics. I watch all kinds of things that I never would normally.

I get my adrenaline fix through a smooth strong cup of coffee. The type that would put any normal person in a head spin or make them feel so exhilarated they thought they had just come off a roller coaster! Well my coffee experience doesn’t take me on a ride, I take it on my roller coaster ride of life and there is no room for DECAF passengers!!
Like a roller coaster I start of slow in the morning, regular coffee intake helps me rise up and over the highs and climb out of the lows of the day very quickly. You could say it was my engine fuel!!! This is mostly how I function during the week but weekends are a different story!
I guess you could say I use coffee as a stimulant during the week but on weekends it is for relaxing and enjoying what life has to offer. Rather like a ferris wheel I guess. On weekends I like to sit at the top and watch the world buzz around at the bottom. It all looks so insignificant from up here!
So as you can see I have a serious coffee addiction, I need it, I want it, I love it!! It’s my stimulant and relaxant and yet I sleep like a baby at night. That part has always puzzled me!!

I get my adrenalin rush by bidding and buying things on ebay!
When there is an item I just HAVE to have, and there is a bidding war going on right in the dying seconds, my heart pumps madly, my hands get sweaty, and if I am the successful bidder, there is such a buzz!!
And best of all, I can get my adrenalin eush in my PJ’s!!! Win-win!!

  14. June 21, 2015 / 1:22 pm

I like to focus all of my time getting my girls ready and leave getting myself ready to the last three minutes so that I have to shower, shave, clean my teeth and throw some clothes on in record time. That’s adrenaline inducing!

  15. June 22, 2015 / 10:10 am

I got my fix when I did V8 hot laps. It was SO MUCH FUN! I’d love to go to the drag races and monster trucks again though but I think bub would freak out even with ear muffs.

Dodging my 2 year old speeding around on his assortment of bikes!

  21. June 29, 2015 / 4:05 pm

Jumping from a plane now that’s simply insane
Exploring a live volcano that’s just a ‘hell no’
Bungee jumping from a cliff just fills me with ‘what if’
So how do I get my adrenaline fix my breath pumping and my heart doing flips…??
Getting five kids out the door gets the heart racing that’s for sure
Watching them at sport each week havoc with my breathing that does wreak
Their independence make my palms sweat and that’ll never stop I bet
Seems my adrenaline fixes will come vicariously through my young ones!

I get my kicks with loud live music by walking into a live venue and heading for the biggest speaker I can find so I can really FEEL the music too!

  23. June 29, 2015 / 9:54 pm

Ahh memories of going to the drags! Miss those days.
