My First Detox Done and Dusted #MummyMondays

I finished my Schkinny Manniny Just The Juice 3 Day Cleanse (or Detox) on Friday and I can definitely see and feel the difference. 
I was contacted by Schkinny Manniny to see if I was interested in reviewing their Juice Cleanse. I’d never done a detox before and thought I’d give it a go. 
My focus was not to lose weight, it was to get back on track and get rid of the toxins that I’m most certain had built up in my body from the unhealthy diet I had inadvertently taken on board. I’ve had a bad habit of skipping meals like breakfast, not taking the time to prepare proper breakfasts and lunches for myself in my hurry to look after Elliott or focus on other things and  I’d always seem to reach for the easiest and not necessarily the healthiest option. So I thought why not see if this detox clears my head and makes me feel better, a fresh start.

The Day Before Detox

My juices were delivered on Tuesday, packaged up nicely in little eskies. The packaging gave a very professional and high quality image. I received 18 juices (6 x 600ml bottles each day), a loofa, peppermint teas, sunflower and pumpkin seeds and some psyllium husk for fibre. I was really excited at this point but that night I ate a bit too much ice cream in the realisation I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it for a while.

Day 1


I woke up with a tiny bit of excitement left over from yesterday, but I was more nervous with the realisation that I wasn’t going to be able to eat anything for three whole days. I weighed myself.
I had my first juice for breakfast and as a person who isn’t big on breakfast,  I felt quite bloated after it although in hindsight I shouldn’t have drunk the whole 600ml bottle. You don’t have to finish the juice, just drink enough untill your full.
After the first juice I felt hungry and for the rest of day one I felt hungry and found myself thinking about food, a lot.  I tried to block this feeling with hot peppermint tea. What made it hard was the fact that I had to prepare meals for Elliott throughout the day, this was difficult.
Most of the juices tasted really good, apart from one called ‘Green Salad’ which wasn’t fruity enough for me and tasted like I was literally drinking a salad which I found quite hard to stomach.
One of the side effects I noticed towards the end of this day was that I was quite short tempered and couldn’t deal with frustrating situations like I normally would. A mild headache started at the end of this day too but I was aware this would happen because it was addressed on my day one information card which came with my juices. I found these cards really helpful and would refer to them often, I received one for each day, the cards told me what to expect and outlined the Do’s and Don’ts of the detox. It was also nice to receive an email in the morning which was quite motivational although I didn’t feel like anything was going to motivate me through this day! 

Day 2


I woke up feeling quite tired this morning although I should have followed the instructions and gone to bed much earlier. I weighed myself this morning and had lost 200grams.
In terms of the hunger issue, I was really suprised at how much easier day 2 was. I didn’t seem to feel as hungry although I just craved coffee!  The one thing that did make day two hard was the fact that it was Playgroup day and so I had to sit and eye off the muffins, biscuits, fruit and popcorn in the middle of the table during morning tea time and smell the coffee aromas wafting through the air. With the tiredness and coffee aromas I must be brutally honest and tell you that I succumbed to a cup of instant coffee. Oops, naughty me.
I could have easily cancelled Playgroup, but I wasn’t going to forego Elliott’s playtime because I was doing a detox.
You may recall that this is was the day when Elliott decided to have his epic meltdown after playgroup. Although I handled it as best I could, I found that I also experienced more of a short temper than normal and believe that if I wasn’t on a detox I would have been a little calmer. This is a known side effect of the detox which was outlined on the information card I was provided.
Day 2 is the day I had one of my favourite juices, Schkinny Pink Sherbert with Watermelon, Lemon, Apple and Cucumber. Yum.

Day 3


Today I weighed myself and lost another 400 grams so that’s 600 grams in total so far with one weigh in to go tomorrow.
I felt so clear headed this morning, I can’t remember the last time I woke up feeling ready to face the day, without a mind filled with fuzz, I felt fresh and positive. I wasn’t hungry at all during the last day and happily drank my juices throughout the day, sometimes only finishing half because I felt quite satisfied. 
On Day 3 I remember getting a big urge to clean, I just had so much energy and I could also see the finish line in sight. 
By the end of Day 3 I also felt lighter and noticed my stomach seems dramatically less bloated. It got to ‘dinner time’ and didn’t feel hungry at all, it was quite amazing considering how I felt on the first day.  I enjoyed a relaxing bath with the Schkinny Manniny Bath soak, I used the loofah to exfoliate and rid my skin of the toxins and  enjoyed some more peppermint tea. I felt really proud and pleased with the outcome in such a short amount of time, I was also quite suprised at the results and myself, there were a number of times I wanted to throw in the towel.

Post-Cleanse


My first day off the cleanse I weighed myself to find that I’d lost 1.1kg over the three day detox. Although I didn’t do the cleanse to lose weight, I’m happy with this result as it is the ‘baby weight’ I gained during my last pregnancy (which I lost at 9 weeks). I was ecstatic when I was able to button up a pair of jeans which didn’t fit prior to the cleanse and which I’d put into my ‘cannot wear’ pile!  
Post-cleanse I was still not itching to go and eat something considerable, I was still so clear headed and full of energy. 
And one great result I noticed at the end of the detox was the change it made to my skin. Before starting the detox, for some damn reason my body decided to send my hormones into hyperdrive, giving me a face full of pimples. My face was all blotchy and lumpy, just yuk! But, after the detox, my skin has had an amazing turn around, it cleared up and is smooth again which is the complete opposite to what I expected from a detox. 

Conclusion 

Overall, I am really happy with the results of the Juice Cleanse. Yes there were a few side effects, yes it was hard and there were challenges (especially while having to look after a toddler at the same time), but I knew these would be part of the process. Would I pay $215 to do it? Knowing the results I’ve achieved, how I feel, having lost weight and less bloating and seeing how it cleared my skin, yes I would.

I know people would say ‘but you can just make your own juice’ and yes I could, but the fact is that I probably wouldn’t. I’m so busy, I wouldn’t get around to making myself 6 x 600ml juices of different juice each day and I wouldn’t know what combinations to use. It’s about convenience and knowing it works. It’s probably not something that I could afford to do every few months, but if I knew that I needed a bit of a health kick up the backside, yes, I’d definitely look at it as an investment into my health.  Perhaps if I were to do it again, I’d also try the Green+Food Cleanse as having a salad to munch on I think would make it a little easier for me.

    Well done Eva!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! As much as I know I need to lose those post baby flabs I don’t think I’ll be able to go through with it though. I’m pretty sure I’ll go through what you experience in the first day – with the sudden lack of carbs and not being able to eat! I love my food!!!! Hopefully when it comes a time where I am not caught up with 2 kids and have more time – I might take this step to detox! Thanks for introducing us to this product though

    I am not sure if I could brave a detox. I am such a chocaholic and rely on the natural high to get me through the day. And then there’s all those stairs in my house…I think I would die! Well done to you though!

    I often think about doing a detox but just never actually get around to doing it. I suppose I worry about not having enough energy to survive the detox days while chasing two little ones, but maybe it is possible.

    I must keep this in mind for post baby weight loss. I did the Lemon Detox years ago and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, it was too intense. This seems more natural and definitely better for your body. Thanks for sharing 🙂
