Trying Something For The First Time

When was the last time you tried something for the first time?

Well, my last ‘first time’ moment was on the weekend when I tried archery and let’s just say…I LOVE IT!

Mr. G and I went away for the weekend for some unwind time in the country. I saw that they offered some different activities and one caught my eye, archery.

When we started walking over to the archery area I remember saying to Mr. G ‘Oh, I’m not so sure about this anymore. Why did I book this again?’

Well, after my first few goes, that thought was completely out the window and I found myself trying to perfect my stance and shot. I amazed myself with the fact that I could actually aim and that I could actually get the arrow in the circle, on the blue and red circles as a matter of fact. Pretty good for a first timer I thought.

I kept adding arrow after arrow to my bow, feeling like I was on the set of a Lord of the Rings movie with the rolling countryside in the background. I tilted my wrist, changed my angle and then pulled the bow back with my fingers, getting arrow after arrow firmly projecting into the board. I wasn’t as uncoordinated as I thought.

This is ‘serious’ Eva. I’m very competitive you know.

I wanted to keep on going for the rest of the afternoon but didn’t want to hold the lady up that instructed us.  I had found something else I loved.

‘Do you think we could set one of these up in our backyard?’ I asked Mr. G. Probably not the smartest question I’ve asked.

It reminded me again how important it is to give things a go, to take risks, because with these risks great things appear on the other side.

So, what was the last thing you tried for the first time? How did it go?

I love archery – it’s so zen. It’s probably the closest thing to meditation that I do – you control your breathing, you focus and be very still in the moment. It’s such a great feeling!! (I’m pretty bad at it tho…!)

There is one of these places about 10 minutes from me. I seriously think this is one thing I’d actually be good at! I can throw a nappy into a bin from across the room! Just saying!

Heck, if you can do that Jody, you’d be awesome at archery! Give it a shot (pardon the pun)

You look like a serious Katniss in your bow and arrow stance! I haven’t done archery since primary school and I was pretty terrible with my aim. Last night I experienced my first hypnosis session! It was prep for birth. A little experiment that hopefully helps me through!

Yes! Why didn’t I think of Katniss…she’s awesome, I’ll take that one.:) I’m a big believer in hypnosis actually and I really hope it works for you x

I’d be too scared I’d take someone’s eye out lol. I’m shocking at darts so I imagine I’d be really bad at archery too. Last time I tried something new was probably when I did my v8 hot laps last year which was pretty freakin awesome {even though I was scared at first}.

I can’t honestly remember the last new thing I tried. That’s not good. But I did try archery at year 6 school camp lol but on a stranger archery experience, we had a leak in the roof of a home I lived in as a child. Dad went up to check it out. There was an arrow that had pierced the iron. We didn’t even live near a park. Total suburbia. So random. It remained a mystery lol

Way to go! I would love to do archery. I am always up to trying something new and love pushing myself out of my comfort zone. My husband is great for getting me into trying new things as well (not in a dirty way!).
Will have to look into where we can try archery around us, thanks for the date day inspiration.

Archery is awesome! I felt very warrior-like when I tried it 🙂 Would love to have a set up in the backyard, but with my boys, it would end in disaster! I just stick to the nerf guns instead. I like to try and cook something new and different each month so I don’t feel stuck in a meal rut.

Go you! Love the action shot 🙂 I’ve always wanted to give archery a go. It’s been a while since I’ve tried something completely new. It’s so easy to get set in my ways. I did take up hockey at age 21 and now 16 years later it’s one of my favourite things to do. The exercise I get and friendships I have made have been well worth the effort.
