5 Unique Self Care Ideas You May Not Have Tried

Establishing a good self-care regime is an essential aspect of taking care of your mental health. You may not have lots of free time, but that doesn’t mean that you should skip out on your self-care. There are biological factors that play a big part in the importance of self-care; I talk about them in the video below.

Have you been trying to come up with some different ideas for self-care because you’re sick of the usual? Why not try these ones.

Different Self-Care Ideas For You To Try

Positive affirmation journalling

Positive affirmations are essentially positive statements that are intended to help you dismiss self-limiting beliefs. They are helpful to rewrite your negative thoughts and help you to achieve a positive mindset. A few examples of positive affirmations might be:

  • I can achieve anything I set out to achieve.
  • I have confidence in my abilities and attributes.
  • I learn when I make mistakes.

It is also helpful to write down any positive feelings that are personal to you, whether it’s your strengths or things you like about your appearance. Journaling in any form is the perfect addition to your self-care regime!

A new challenge

Sometimes pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is just what you need to feel more confident and happy. Challenge yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, whether it’s a language, an instrument, or simply joining a book club. Learning new skills can help us to enrich our lives and to meet like-minded people. Currently, many events and social classes are available online for those who prefer to stay home.

Try acupuncture

Acupuncture is used to help individuals to de-stress or to soothe the symptoms of certain health conditions. Through the use of fine, sterile needles targeting and stimulating specific acupoints, acupuncture can help improve your body’s functions, help muscles relax, and encourage your body’s self-healing process. No doubt, you’ll leave an acupuncture session feeling revitalized and relaxed!

Tai chi

Tai chi is a type of martial art that incorporates meditation. Throughout Tai chi, you’ll perform movements slowly, combined with different breathing exercises. Tai chi is a calming and spiritual practice that can help you to feel more connected to your body and the earth. There are many health benefits, including improving muscle pain and increasing strength. When you’re bored of your regular gym sessions, you might be glad of a new class to jazz things up (or slow things down)!

Create a healthier home

Making healthy adjustments to your home is a great act of self-care. You could try adding an air filter and a few houseplants to remove toxins from the indoor air. Another great idea is adding a water filter to remove all the contaminants from your water. For an excellent range of water filters, I’ve come across Filtap. To keep things eco-friendly and healthy in your home, use only eco-candles and eco-paint for decorating.

Reducing clutter is also another act of self-care that can significantly improve mental health. Just think about how much tension and stress you hold within you when you continuously look at a messy house?  Research even confirms that stress hormones are higher in people who live in a cluttered home environment.

Self-care is all about establishing a regime and sticking to it. This could be getting up fifteen minutes earlier to practice yoga or walking the scenic route to work. It doesn’t matter how simple the activity is; every little bit helps to improve your wellbeing!
